If you don't talk about what's on your mind, what you're going through and what you're feeling, emotions can bottle up and later be expressed like an explosion for a trifle. Of course, this is never your intention and you feel guilty that it happened. Children in particular can explode very unexpectedly and they cannot (or cannot) tell afterwards what exactly was going on.

Also, older HSPs in particular have a fear or reluctance about expressing their true selves. Too often they have been reproved in a negative way in their youth when they talked about the ethereal things they had been through. Fears were swept away or dismissed as not quite normal. The survival technique was to shut up and don't talk about it anymore. As a result, you have completely lost yourself.

You have to express yourself, investigate, discover what you already knew so that the energy can flow again. Speak helps you to speak out and so you recognize yourself.
